# Platform settings

Platform settings [#platform-settings]

Platform settings are defaults that apply to every workspace in one deployment, unless a workspace sets its own value.

| Deployment | Platform defaults |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Dedicated enterprise | Can stay empty; configure each workspace independently |
| Shared | Publish defaults for new and unconfigured workspaces; each workspace can replace them |

How a value is resolved [#how-a-value-is-resolved]

At request time, the first match wins:

1. The workspace's own value.
2. The platform default.
3. The feature's built-in empty or safe default.

* Defaults are not copied into workspaces: inheriting workspaces see a platform change on their next settings request.
* A workspace value replaces the platform value; they never merge.

Who can change them [#who-can-change-them]

* Only a platform admin can read or change platform settings, signed in or with a platform key whose owner is currently a platform admin.
* Workspace members whose role allows it control their workspace's settings. Removing the workspace's own value restores the platform default.
